African Stock Exhibition - Explained & Classes Offered | Click To Read

The African Stock Exhibition (ASE) is provided to basenji fanciers as the opportunity to follow the track
the influence of African imports and their descendants have to the breed as a whole. This is an annual
event held during the National Specialty and is allowed as an AKC Special Attraction. Various awards
may be given for class placements and top winners.

Classes are offered for both puppies and adults in each sex.

  • Adults do not compete with puppies.
  • Puppies six months old to 12 months of age are eligible to compete in the puppy classes.
  • Non-Champions, major pointed dogs, and champions of record are eligible to compete.
  • Professional handlers may exhibit dogs at this event.
  • Spayed/neutered basenjis may be entered.
  • Basenjis must be registered or have registration pending with an approved registry to compete
    in the classes.

Competitive Classes include Puppy Dogs and Bitches of full, three-quarters, one-half, and one-fourth
African heritage; Adult Dogs and Bitches of full, three-quarters, one-half, and one-fourth African
heritage; Veteran (7 years and older) Dogs and Bitches of full, three-quarters, one-half, and one-fourth
African heritage.

  • Full African Class includes basenjis of 100% African stock, imported or American Bred.
  • Three-Quarters African Class includes basenjis with three-quarters or more of the new African
    stock in the pedigree.
  • One-Half African Class includes basenjis with one-half or more, but less than three quarters new
    African stock in the pedigree.
  • One-Quarter African Class includes basenjis with one-quarter, but less than one-half new African
    stock in the pedigree.
  • From these Competitive Classes, awards are given to:
  • Best Puppy and Best of Opposite Sex to Best Puppy in African Stock Exhibition.
  • Best Adult and Best of Opposite Sex to Best Adult in African Stock Exhibition.
  • Best Veteran and Best of Opposite Sex to Best Veteran in African Stock Exhibition.

Along with the competitive classes, a non-competitive class called the Parade of Full Africans basenjis
(imported or American bred.) is for unregistered African imports. These Basenjis have import
documentation; their unregistered descendants are eligible for this portion of the event.

Remember: The primary purpose of this event is to provide an Exhibition for basenji fanciers to follow the progression of African influence within the breed as a whole.

Pre Entries ONLY. Entries close at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 23, 2021.   After the Closing date/time entries cannot be accepted, cancelled, or changed.

One entry form must be submitted for each basenji entered. Entries are considered valid ONLY when accompanied with entry fees.
